In tips&trix R170 motor, there is an item describing the installation of the "oelstopkabel", to minimize the risk of having te original cable contaminated with oil. Where can I obtain such a cable? Is it an original Mercedes item? If so what is the partnumber?
Danke!
for the R170 after the facelift (years 2000 till 2004) there is a cable you can buy from Mercedes, which costs around 15€. For the pre-facelift R170 (1996-1999) you have to buy the cable and modify it to fit the old connectors.
Nearly correct! For the FLs you can buy it at MB for about 25€. One user offers it in the 'Kleinanzeigen' for 20€.
For the PreFL there is an offer in the 'Kleinanzeigen', too, made by Ramius. It fits plug & play without any adaption necessary.
Especially for the FLs the cable is very important to prevent the 'oil-flood' in the cables ... Good luck! Dieter.
Hi,
alternatively you can just dismantle the old cable and solder it. Since the reason for the transport to the ecu is the capillar-action, a neatly soldered cable will stop the problem too.
Additionally i recommend you to also buy a new magnet, afaik parts-nr. A111 051 01 77, since a not leaking magnet + the soldered cable gives more security than just the modification of the cable alone.
If you change the magnet, be sure to clean the flange and apply some sealing compound. Otherwise it is possible that the magnet is leaking oil on the outside.
Frequent inspection of magnet and cable is recommended though.
Greetings,
Thanks for your good advise. Beeing a long-time owner of the other sports-car brand from Stuttgart, I have set out to learn as much as possible about my new aquisition, SLK 230 K, 1997, 100.000 kms. A lovely car, which has been used summertime only..
